Three weeks ago, we launched the beta test for our AI knowledge assistant, remio (https://www.remio.ai). This beta wasn’t just about stress-testing features — it was a litmus test for one core hypothesis: Would users embrace a feature that automatically captures the web pages they visit? Would they worry about privacy? Or would they find it intrusive?
Before this, we’d conducted user research, but as any product team knows, pre-launch feedback is riddled with uncertainty until users actually get their hands on the product. Even within our own team, not everyone was sold on this auto-capture idea. That made the stakes for this beta feel especially high.
Spoiler alert: It’s turned out to be our most praised feature.
Due to various constraints (mostly time), we skipped the onboarding tutorial for this beta. Most users stumbled upon the feature by accident. And honestly? That made their unfiltered reactions even more authentic and compelling.

“That Moment Was Shocking”: The Unexpected Joy of Effortless Capture
One user’s first encounter with remio summed it up perfectly:
“I got it, and it’s pretty stunning — especially when it read my browser content, haha. That moment was shocking.”
Another user painted a vivid picture of their ideal knowledge tool:
“I want a personal knowledge base that proactively collects and saves everything I’ve encountered, filters and compresses it, and helps me recall things whenever I need. Silent saving without me lifting a finger. I’d pay for that.”
This “effortless capture” experience skips the tedious manual saving process and delivers a subtle, warm touch of technology that users didn’t even know they wanted.

“A Silky-Smooth Combo”: The Ask Feature’s Surprise Boost
The magic of remio’s auto-capture doesn’t stop at recording — it shines even brighter when paired with our Ask feature. One user couldn’t contain their excitement:
“I figured out how this plugin works, and it’s so seamless. Pairing it with Ask is a little surprise. You should hype up this silky-smooth combo of effortless capture + Ask recall in your marketing!”
Another user stumbled into it mid-Ask:
“A pleasant surprise. At first, it felt weird — why’s there stuff I didn’t write? Then I realized it was the plugin doing its thing.”
This synergy between auto-capturing web content and retrieving it via Ask is where remio starts to feel less like a tool and more like a quiet, brilliant assistant.

More Auto-Capture Features on the Horizon
The warm reception to web page auto-capture has lit a fire under us. Over the next month or two, we’re doubling down on this direction.
First up: automatic file capture. We’re sticking to the same philosophy — capture files the moment users interact with them. Think:
PDFs opened in the browser;
Files opened in the desktop version of WeChat;
Downloads saved to a user-specified folder.
Next, we’re enhancing multimodal web content capture. Imagine automatically saving subtitles from YouTube videos you’ve watched, or a quick button to snap the current video frame and store it. These are just the beginning.

Fearless Trailblazing: Why We’re Going Against the Grain
remio’s approach to content capture isn’t just different — it’s the opposite of every similar tool out there. Our philosophy is unconventional, even contrarian.
For web content, every other product requires manual action to save. Tools like Evernote even let users cherry-pick specific sections of a page. remio? It captures everything by default — no options, no fuss.
For files, competitors like Google NotebookLM, Tencent IMA, or Nanomi AI Knowledge Base demand manual uploads to the cloud. remio? It auto-captures files from designated folders and keeps everything local on your device — no cloud required.
Going against the flow carries risks. But sticking to the status quo adds even less value to the world. We’re convinced this bold, contrarian path is worth walking with conviction.
